Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Sign in to Microsoft 365

  1. Open your web browser and go to Microsoft 365 sign-in page.
    2. Enter your email address and password, then click Sign in.

Step 2: Navigate to Security Settings

  1. Once signed in, click on your profile picture or initials in the top-right corner.
    2. Select My Account from the dropdown menu.
    3. In the left-hand navigation pane, click Security & privacy.
    4. Click on Additional security verification.

Step 3: Start MFA Setup

  1. On the Additional security verification page, click on Set up or Update your phone numbers used for account security.
    2. You will be guided to the Keep your account secure page. Click Next to begin the setup proces

Step 4: Choose Your MFA Method

Microsoft 365 offers several methods for MFA. Choose one that best suits your preferences:

Method 1: Mobile App (Recommended)

1. **Select Mobile app from the drop-down menu.
2. Choose Receive notifications for verification.
3. Click Set up to configure the Microsoft Authenticator app:
- Download the Microsoft Authenticator app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
- Open the app, tap Add account, and select Work or school account.
- Use your phone to scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup in the app.

Method 2: Phone

1. Select Authentication phone.
2. Enter your phone number and choose to receive the verification code via Text message or Phone call.
3. Click Next and follow the instructions to verify your phone number.

 

Step 5: Verify Your MFA Setup

1. Once you've set up your chosen MFA method, click Next.
2. You will receive a test notification or code. Follow the instructions to complete the verification process.
3. After successful verification, click Next to finish the setup.

 

Step 6: Update Your Security Info (Optional)

1. Return to the Additional security verification page.
2. Review and update your backup phone number or email address to ensure you can access your account in case
you lose access to your primary MFA method.
